PSYCHEDELIC/PROGRESSIVE/FOLK

ARCANE ALLIES - SARASWATI (LP/PINK TANK)

Arcane Allies is a synth trio (theremin/synth, drums and guitar) formed in 2016. Inspired by psychedelic and krautrock bands such as Can, Neu!, Tangerine Dream and Moon Duo but also electronic and techno ats such as Derrick May, Jeff Mills or Jessy Lanza and Laurel Halo from the HyperDub Label. Arcane Allies formed during their USA trip with the psych surf band Dai Kaiju. Co-release with Tonzonen Records. Limited to 300 copies on blue vinyl.

BEAT OF THE EARTH - THIS RECORD IS AN ARTISTIC STATEMENT (LP/MAGIC BOX)

Recorded by the legendary, enigmatic Phil Pearlman (and a few friends) as an art project whilst at University of Southern California, this pioneering improvised psychedelic album has been compared to the Doors, the Velvet Underground and others. Only 500 copies were manufactured back in 1967, and distributed via hitch-hikers, making original copies almost impossible to obtain. This long awaited vinyl reissue comes with an insert offering background information about the album.

BRAINCHILD - HEALING OF THE LUNATIC OWL (+CD) (LP/MAGIC BOX)

This septet from Somerset recorded their sole album in London in March 1970. Produced by Lennie Wright (drummer with the Web and Samurai), it originally appeared that October, when it sank without trace. In recent years, however, it has been acclaimed as one of the best British prog obscurities of its time, with its tight jamming and incisive brass arrangements earning favorable comparisons with Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears. It's presented here complete with a CD including a rare non-album bonus track and a double sided postcard.

BURN PILOT - INFINITISM (LP/PINK TANK)

Psychedelic punk designed to destroy since 2005!!! Limited to 300 copies on white vinyl.

CAMEL DRIVER - \/ (LP/PINK TANK)

Camel Driver is a three piece instrumental rock band from Kiel/Germany. They combine finest desert rock sounds with raw metal influences and fine-tuned/hot oriental jazz parts. Camel Driver has gone deeply into versatile songwriting to create their own colorful and massive sound landscapes. Their second full-length album is limited to 200 copies.

CATAPILLA - CATAPILLA (LP/TRADING PLACES)

Jazz-infused prog rock act Catapilla began in London in 1970, with saxophonists Robert Calvert (who later worked with Daevid Allen in various Gong spin-off projects) and Hugh Eaglestone, bassist Dave Taylor (of chart-topping pop act Edison Lighthouse, and later active in hard-rock group, Liar), along with drummer Malcolm Frith, guitarist Graham Wilson and clarinet player/flautist, Thierry Rheinhardt; original vocalist 'Lady' Jo Meek quit early (to work with the keyboardist, poet and science fiction author Julian Jay Savarin) and was duly replaced by her sister, Anna, whose gutsy gasps gave the band its noteworthy difference, along with the woodwinds and horns. Former Millionaires' bassist Cliff Cooper (who had worked with producer Joe Meek before founding Orange Amplifiers), brought Catapilla to the attention of Black Sabbath's manager, Patrick Meehan, who swiftly got them a contract with Vertigo, Philips' prog subsidiary; this self-titled debut has four freaky tracks, including the side-long closer, 'Embryonic Fusion.'

CONTENTS ARE - LIVE DAVENPORT, IOWA 1968 (LP/ALONA'S DREAM)

Previously unreleased live recording featuring unheard originals from 1960s psychedelic legends The Contents Are. These recordings represents a band in between making an early psychedelic folk classic in their first album and an expansive acid rock evolution on their second album, with many original songs that were only ever played live. The listener can also hear a band who could keep a dancehall moving, a group as capable of being the evening's entertainers as well as storytellers and poets in the studio. The recordings were restored, carefully mastered and pressed into 160 gram vinyl. Housed in a heavy-duty classic style tip-on jacket including previously unseen pictures and informative liner notes. A rare nine song document of The Contents Are's expansive live sound. Intense jams for the psychedelic dancehall circa 1968 from these true legends of midwestern rock 'n roll. Limited to 500 copies.

DORIANS - ROCK CONCERTO (LP/TRADING PLACES)

Obscure Canadian psychedelic rock band The Dorians was formed in 1968 in the town of Kingsville, Ontario, by singer John Unger and bassist Bob Nixon, formerly of The Doomsday Machine; guitarist/chief songwriter Bill Loop drafted esteemed drummer Mike Betts, who joined in September 1967 after playing with Loop in Living Ends. Since Kingsville lies less than an hour away from Detroit by road, the band began recording at noted soul spot, GM Studios, in 1969, working with the songwriter, trumpeter and arranger Floyd Jones. Early singles such as the catchy 'Psychedelic Lipstick' were licensed to European labels, including Giacomo Mazzini's Swiss-based PDU, which issued their sole long- player, 'Rock Concerto,' in 1970. Although 'Means And Ways' and 'Good Love' are framed as easy-going psych driven by strong vocal harmony, 'Torch Song' drifted into spaced-out territory via extended instrumental jamming, led by the parallel playing of bass, violin and keyboards. This edition of the highly collectable LP includes bonus track 'Worm Conquers All,' taken from the 'Torch Song' single B-side.

EXTRAA - BAKED (LP/REQUIEM POUR UN TWISTER)

Led by French female singer, musician and songwriter Alix Lachiver, Extraa brings genuinely authentic catchy songs and production, timeless feelings, a lush production enriched with sweet melodies, warm basslines and smooth rhythms.

JACULA - TARDO PEDE IN MAGIAM VERSUS (LP/BLACK WIDOW)

Repress! The mystic-psycho-dark band Jacula was founded by the eclectic philosopher-composer-guitarist Antonio Bartoccetti (Antonius Rex, lead guitar), the musician Charles Tiring (church organ), and the experimental sound engineer, vocalist and keyboards player Doris Norton... The band is considered by the international critics as "the most authoritative band of the deeper parabiblical mystic sound". The band is characterized by the unique parapsychological style of the works, esoteric messages, fight against pollution and against any kind of war and violence. Antonio Bartoccetti also is the founder of the cult group Antonius Rex. Jacula released the albums 'In Cauda Semper Stat Venenum' (1969) and 'Tardo Pede In Magiam Versus' (1972).

JONESY - NO ALTERNATIVE (LP/TRADING PLACES)

One of the lesser-known acts to arise during the plethora of prog rock acts in Britain, Jonesy was formed in 1971 by frontman John Evans-Jones and his bassist/multi-instrumentalist brother Trevor 'Gypsy' Jones, who had both been in Anno Domini just before (though they had first played in various groups together during an Australian sojourn in the 1960s, including the hit-making Choas & Co). The early line-up shattered after a brotherly dispute, leading to the arrival of bassist David Paul and drummer Jim Payne, who had both played in the National Head Band, with Chicago-born Scouser, Jimmy Kaleth on keyboards lending a defining treble element, especially through his use of a Mellotron. The prevalence of that instrument on their 1972 debut LP, 'No Alternative', has naturally drawn comparisons with King Crimson in retrospect, but Jonesy had a sound all their own, with undercurrents of blues rock on 'Mind Of The Century' and the title track, plus jazz leanings and uncommon time signatures on '1958' and 'Ricochet.' This edition features bonus tracks 'Everyday's The Same' and 'Reprise,' taken from a 1973 single..

KHADAVRA - HYPNAGOGIA (2LP) (LP/BLACK WIDOW)

This Swedish band clearly has its roots in the classic times of prog but the sound of 'Hypnagogia' and the writing is brand new, only slight references here and there: 'Dissolve' (Focus) and 'Mordangel'(King Crimson-ish). For fans of Black Sabbath, Tool, Anekdoten, Pink Floyd, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Gong, Opeth, King Crimson, Meshuggah, Steven Wilson, Motorpsycho, Tiamat, Miles Davis, Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, Magma, Porcupine Tree, Haken.

PERMANENT CLEAR LIGHT - COSMIC COMICS (LP/SULATRON)

A superb psychedelic pop album by Finland's number one band for phantastic earworms in a psychedelic way! Permanent Clear Light is often referred to as Finland's top psychedelic group. They released their debut album, 'Beyond These Things', in 2014 to a high critical acclaim. After that, the group has released several singles, EPs and appeared on a number of compilation albums on the British Fruits de Mer label. Although PCL's musical roots lie in '60s psychedelia their sound is strictly contemporary. The trio considers the recording studio their main instrument, and their sound is characterised by multi-layered instrumental work and strong melodic vocals. After a creative break, PCL is finally ready to release its second album, 'Cosmic Comics', which shows that the band has travelled a long way through the spheres since their debut. Mastering for all tracks by Eroc. Limited to 500 copies on 180 gram mint green vinyl.

SIR LORD BALTIMORE - KINGDOM COME (LP/TRADING PLACES)

Hard-rocking Brooklyn trio Sir Lord Baltimore's highly sought-after debut album is a legendary precursor of the heavy metal genre, a 1971 Creem review of the disc perhaps the first to ever use the term. The group benefited from the songwriting and production team of Mike Appel and Jim Cretecos, Appel, the future manager of Bruce Springsteen and Cretecos already heady from success with The Partridge Family; recorded at Vantone Studios in New Jersey, it was mixed to fine effect by Eddie Kramer at Electric Ladyland, fresh from his work with Jimi Hendrix. Guitarist Louis Dambra co-arranged the material with Appel and Cretecos; he had earlier played in garage band The Koala as Louis Caine, and here his screeching guitar is a major draw, backed by plodding bass from Gary Justin, as front man John Garner shrieks his vocals while pounding furious drumbeats. Aside from a tough cover of Ray Charles' 'I Got A Woman' and a track inspired by Yeats' poem 'Lake Isle Of Innersfree,' the album features heavily-stoned acid rock originals, delivered the Sir Lord Baltimore way.

VINYL WILLIAMS - AZURE (BLACK) (LP/REQUIEM POUR UN TWISTER)

Vinyl Williams releases his anticipated LP 'Azure', the follow-up of the acclaimed album 'Opal'. After collaging hundreds of paintings together in a string for creating the sleeve artwork, Williams brings eleven tracks which still represents the complex, organic and decadent music he is known for.

CONNER, GARY LEE - THE MICRODOT GNOME (CD/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

The long awaited FIRST album by Gary Lee Conner, the Screaming Trees guitar player and author, recorded in 2010. Originally only released digitally and on cassette. 11 tracks of totally psychedelic music!

KHADAVRA - HYPNAGOGIA (CD/BLACK WIDOW)

ROCCO'S RED CLOUD - CIRCUS DE PLAGUE (CD/CLOSTRIDIUM)

Psychedelic, progressive, stoner, blues, rock from Dortmund. The late '60s and early '70s, that was the great time of classic rock trios. With irrepressible energy, boundless passion, improvisation and incredible dynamics, three-pieces like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Rory Gallagher's band Taste, Blue Cheer, Mountain or Johnny Winter and his band, revolutionized rock music. Keeping up their tradition, Rocco's Red Cloud, a young trio from the eastern Ruhr area, are getting ready to add new facets to that classic sound. The heavy, psychedelic blues rock sound of the sixties role models is now enriched by the youngsters with the musical benefits of subsequent rock generations, to create their own sound. Limited to 300 copies in digipack.

GARAGE/BEAT/SURF/ROCK’N’ROLL

CIRCLES (UK) - GONE TOMORROW (12"/DETOUR)

The long awaited follow-up release to their 'Our Time' EP. A 4-track EP from one of the mod revival bands of the late 70's. All four tracks feature the original members from the 1980 line-up. Limited to 400 copies.

BELLRAYS - LET IT BLAST (LP/PURPLE ZONE)

Originally released on LP in 1998 on Scooch Pooch Records. This second album is the real start for our fave Californian punk-soul rockers. Bob is on the bass and with Ray Chin on drums they built a ferocious rhythm section, savagely embellished by guitar maestro Tony Fate himself!! And the one who leads this frantic combo to a soulful fireworks is princess Lisa Kekaula!! Now in 2020, the world (let's say "a part of") know our heroes and their so personal way of treating punk, rock and soul. But in in 1998, whaoooh this has been a real kick-in-the-ass!!! Nevertheless, be careful (or not) when you put the needle on the wax for the first time!!! Simply because Bob Vennum remixed the album and Bob Lanzner remastered it. The sound is enormous!! And for your listening pleasure Purple Zone added 2 bonus tracks. So we can say that this first-time on vinyl reissue in 22 years is a real EVENT!!! Limited to 500 copies.

SWEET REAPER - CLOSER STILL (LP/ALIEN SNATCH!)

This beach monster reveals some Wipers/Ramones hints. The insanely loud dark-out-of-the-tomb down-tuned punk sound with one of most devilish catchy howled-out vocals the record is the resurgence of the infection similar to the Hex Dispensers' debut album. This album hits like a brick on lockdown, a shredding DIY gem. Comes with double sided insert.

VARIOUS - FIRE OF LOVE, VOL. 1 (LP/BE! SHARP)

First volume in the 'Fire Of Love' series. A collection of lost unknown, darkest, brooding, slow burning, sexy, steamy '50s rockaballads, many of these gems have been hidden on the flip sides of rockabilly classics, or just come from a universe of their own, but this is the album that you play at 3:00 a.m. when you can't sleep because you can't get him or her out of your mind. LAGOON - MAA KALI TRIP (CD/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

Two piece freak unit LáGoon return with their third album, sure to please punks, metal heads, weirdos and everyone in between. Their darkest album yet. A new savage punk sound that is raw and unfiltered. Anthony Gaglia sounds like an escaped lunatic at certain points, as he howls into the microphone. I mean this is the best possible way of course. All the while Brady Maurer pounds a brutal assault on his drum kit of doom. A fully realized album just in time for the end of the world. The songs on this album were inspired by the maa kali mushroom truffle.

POP/ROCK/WAVE/NOISE

POLICE CONTROL - NOYE (12"/CROQUE MACADAM)

After a first EP released in 2017, the French duo Police Control is back with a 12" EP on Croque Macadam. The band moves from their debut power pop sound to a more French pop style in the line of the 80's band Jeunes Gens Modernes. Recorded with the help of French DIY studio wizard Maxime Smadja (Rendez Vous, Youth Avoiders, Rixe), the band had particularly refined their guitar sound to make it tight and straight.

CANI SCIORRI - TEN TACOS AND ONE BURRITO (CD/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

'Ten Tacos And One Burrito' from Italian noise lords Cani Sciorri is a modern noise rock classic. Much more experimental than their previous ventures. Recorded and Mixed by Eddie Rivas @ Total Annihilation Studio, Los Angeles CA.

CHRISTOPHE - POUR QUELQUES TRESORS DE PLUS (CD/MAGIC RECORDS)

Christophe, stage name for Daniel Bevilacqua, was a French singer/composer who wrote his first hits during the Yeye-heyday in the 1960s. He later changed to a more pop and rock style, and continued to compose and perform until his death in April 2020. This 24-track compilation contains three tracks with French and Italian lyrics.

TUNNEL - SHAPESHIFTER (CD/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

California creepers The Tunnel return for their first official release on Forbidden Place Records. 'Shapeshifter' is their darkest effort yet. Creeping like a green fog under the door and scaring the shit out of your girlfriend. This album is haunting. Featuring a rhythm section that mercilessly pounds your skull and ominous, mystical vocals that whisper a lullaby of death. This album is the theme for the coming 2020 apocalypse. For fans of Swans, Birthday Party, 16 Horsepower, Chrome, Bauhaus, Killing Joke, Amphetamine Reptile.

PUNK/HARDCORE

PROTAGONISTS - 1983-1985 (LP/ALONA'S DREAM)

Mid-1980's suburban Chicago punk. Naperville's Protagonists formed in the wake of the first wave of Chicago hardcore punk. Instead of being inspired by the first generation weirdo Chicago punks like Silver Abuse and Tutu & The Pirates or the hardcore legion that followed (AOF, ROTA, Negative Element, etc.), Protagonists drew their motivation from sources as diverse as punk icons Buzzcocks, The Dickies and The Damned to prime era '50s and '60s teen anthems (Buddy Holly, Del Shannon, and The Monkees). The group formed in a Naperville high school, played local talent shows and teen dance parties, and hooked up with older kids (Reaction Formation) who helped them get radio gigs and put out a tape recorded by Phil Bonnet, influential recording engineer and long time friend. The band followed up with a 7" for Reaction Formation's label Nova which garnered positive reviews but they were shortly after pulled apart by the usual strains on the end of adolescent trajectories. This compilation gathers their original tape, unheard outside of the suburban Chicago teen punk scene, and pairs it with the songs from their hard-to-find 7" EP (originally pressed in 1000 copies in 1985). The b-side features basement demos of original songs recorded by the band as well some great covers which show they could rock as a punk dance band. Limited edition of 500 copies on 160 gram blue vinyl in a 20pt board jacket with full color printed inner sleeve featuring (lots of) previously unseen photos of the band and detailed liner notes.

INDUSTRIAL/EXPERIMENTAL/NOISE/NEOFOLK/GOTHIC

OF THE WAND AND THE MOON - TAINTED TEARS (BLACK) (12"/HEIDRUNAR MYRKRUNAR)

Tainted tears have crystalized into form. Into twilight song. For a twilight season. This 12" single presents 2 sombre acoustic versions of songs from the Of The Wand And The Moon album 'Your Love Can't Hold This Wreath Of Sorrow'. Featuring house musician Niels Ronne on melodica, and guest appearance by Offermose. Recorded at Black Algiz Bunker and Soundscape Studio in Copenhagen. Mixed by Louise Nipper. Mastered by Robert Ferbrache. The B-side is etched.

APOPTOSE - BANNWALD (LP/TESCO)

This very deluxe limited edition release comes in clear-brown-smoked vinyl and gatefold cover with spotvarnished elements and printed innersleeve. "On a sunny Friday in September many years ago three girls went into a large forest in northern Germany to pick berries and herbs. They never returned." Welcome to the realm of Apoptose's 'Bannwald', an album full of witchcraft, spells and ancient goddesses. Here nothing is as it seems and reality is covered by a thick layer of autumn foliage. 'Bannwald' was originally released on CD in the year 2010. In the years to follow the album gained a huge following amongst fans of dark ambient music. Tesco and Apoptose celebrate the 10 year anniversary with the first ever vinyl edition of this long sold out masterpiece. But this is not just a simple re-release. Apoptose remastered the sound so that you experience the girls' path into the woods and hear their voices whispering among the trees... Beyond that the artwork and packaging invite you to immerse yourself in 'Bannwald's green twilight of rustling leafs and crackling twigs: the grooves are pressed in forest-lake smoked vinyl which is protected by a printed inner sleeve. On the outside a spot-varnishing adds a tactile quality to the iconic artwork of the foldout cover. This LP is limited to 300 copies. The German term "Bannwald" bears a double meaning: on one hand it stands for a protected woodland where nobody is allowed to cut trees or even to enter. On the other hand "Bann" is an ancient word for ban or spell.

DODSMASKIN - VERDENSSMERTE (LP/TESCO)

Designing their sound, Dodsmaskin employ a mix of electronic, electric and acoustic/field-recording elements that are structured in a spectrum ranging from overpowering noise to deep drone and ambience, frequently integrated with tonal layers and metrical arrangements. The fifth full-length installment, 'Verdenssmerte' (world-pain), is a continuation of this approach, introducing some new aspects to the Dodsmaskin aesthetics as well as cultivating established ones. 'Verdenssmerte', a direct translation of the term "weltschmerz", is a title picked at an early stage of the recording process owing to the overall mood of the emerging material and the conceptual framework that had been laid out. In its original meaning, "weltschmerz" signifies psychological implications of the restraints of the physical world; a recurring theme in various Romantic and Decadent literature of the 19th century. 'Verdenssmerte', then, can be viewed both as an homage and a contemporary contribution to that movement. Mastered by Norman Nitzsche at Calyx Mastering.

COIL - A PRISON OF MEASURED TIME (CD/OLD EUROPA CAFE)

"The histroy of these tracks is: In 1995 and before I was employed to take tracks home and manipulate the streams to create new content. The way I did this was a process I called 'Rate/Stretch', I won't go into details, but it was very successful at creating whole new content. From these experiments came the 'Scorn' Dreamspace mix, and much of Black Light District. After we came back from New Orleans working on the 'Backwards'LP at Trent Reznor's studio, Peter Christopherson, asked me to do the same to two tracks, 'Heaven's Blade' and 'Wir Click Wir (Copacaballa)'. This was 1998 (a year and a half after we left New Orleans). I started the project, but due to misgivings at the time with the whole music business, I left, and the tracks didn't get a release. On these tracks you wil get music unheard. 1. John Balance vocals some of which never heard before 2. The trumpet takes we recorded for 'Wir Click Wir', but never had the facility to use." ~Danny Hyde. Written by B.C.H. Recorded at Creek House, Swanyard and Bushmead studio. TRACKS: 1. Heaven's Blade (Dark Night Mix) 2. Wir Clik Wir (A Deeply Disturbed Passing Mix)

IN RUIN - HALLOW (CD/HEIDENVOLK)

This album, four years in the making, serves as a bridge between the past and present, explores the question "What is sacred?" and dives deep into anger, personal turmoil, and retribution. At it's core, 'Hallow' is a dark folk album. Though, as on previous In Ruin releases, elements of metal and classical music can be heard. The album features guest appearances by Richard Leviathan (Ostara), S.P Haché (Night Profound), Michal Krawczuk (By The Spirits), and Kim Larsen (Of The Wand And The Moon). Furthermore, the album contains a cover version of a Darkwood track. In Ruin's latest full-length release was 2016's digital compilation 'Wounds & Scars.' The band last collaborated with Heidenvolk on 2008's 'A Ghost To Be Forgotten'. This CD comes in a very beautiful digipack.

OPENING PERFORMANCE ORCHESTRA - RADIO MUSIC EXTENDED (CD/SUB ROSA)

The composition 'Radio Music Extended', performed by Opening Performance Orchestra, draws upon the concept John Cage brought to bear in his piece 'Radio Music' from 1956. In collaboration with the Tesla Museum in Trest, whose collections include unique exhibits of radio electronic and audio-visual devices, the 72-minute piece 'Radio Music Extended' came into being during a private live performance in July 2018. The seven members of Opening Performance Orchestra and two alternating guests operated 13 historical radio sets, dating from between 1935 and 1961. Over the past 60 years or so, the content of the broadcast band of the airwaves has significantly changed, yet the acoustic environment has remained highly variegated, providing a novel quality of sound.

WESTERN, CREED, SPYBEY - W ANDS (CD/COLD SPRING)

A posthumous collaboration between the late Phil Western (Download, Beehatch), Jesse Creed (The Passenger) and Mark Spybey (Download, Dead Voices On Air, Reformed Faction, Beehatch). Both Phil and Jesse shared a love for vintage analogue synthesizers such as the VCS3, and the music for 'W ands' was largely created using this equipment. In the spirit of how it was created, Spybey added improvised passages using his collection of homemade and ethnic instruments and then edited the pieces. Phil would often talk about being 'taken away' by music. Both Jesse and Mark have laboured to do this through their own music too, not as a means of escape but to transcend. This music strives to explore the desire to go beyond the ordinary everyday experience and to reach a place where the egos and the individual contributions of the players are largely inconsequential. A place where time doesn't really matter. A place of healing and invention. An album of expansive drones and analogue electronics, which will undoubtedly appeal to fans of Coil, Nurse With Wound and Zoviet France.

METAL/STONER/HARDROCK

AHERUSIA - NOCTOC ~ AN ANSWER (?) (LP/VINYLSTORE)

Aherusia's 4th album is a collection of eleven traditional songs from all over Greece, rearranged by the band and sequenced in such a way, so as to create a didactic parable through a loosely pieced but still coherent storyline. The concept of emigration, the sensation of feeling nostalgic and homesick, but also the search of what exactly constitutes "homeland" for someone, what people love and wish to return to, (something that can be often irreverent to geographical bounds), is something that the band focuses on this album. Metal meets Greek traditional music! Limited to 300 copies.

SUNN O))) - FLIGHT OF THE BEHEMOTH (2LP) (LP/SOUTHERN LORD)

First repress via Southern Lord and all we can say is that it's what you'd expect packaging and music wise: Heavy!

JAZZ/AVANTGARDE

BROTZMANN/OLIVER/KELLERS FEATURING MANFRED SCHOOF - IN A STATE OF UNDRESS (LP/BE! JAZZ)

The interaction between Manfred Schoof and Peter Brötzmann may reference late-'60s Ornette Coleman and harmolodics, Brötzmann rasping and intertwining with playful melodies over relatively straightforward rhythm structures. On the moody 'Berlin Grey For A Rainy Day' the more subtle aspects of Schoof and Brötzmann's playing are shown to good effect. This album is part of Be! Jazz's reissue series of long-lost classics from the legendary vaults of FMP Records, presented in restored original packaging and newly remastered for optimal sound. Personnel: Manfred Schoof: trumpet, flugelhorn, Peter Brötzmann: saxophone, tarogato, Jay Oliver: double bass, Willi Kellers: drums. Recorded in Berlin, March 1989. Limited to 200 copies.

FULL BLAST - FAREWELL TONIC (LP/TROST)

The recording of the last show ever in the legendary NYC club by Brötzmann's Full Blast powerhouse was previously only available in a limited run of semi-official CD bootlegs. Now remastered for vinyl (by Martin Siewert). Comes in screenprinted cover, designed by Brötzmann. Handnumbered edition of 500.

GLOBE UNITY ORCHESTRA AND GUESTS - PEARLS (LP/BE! JAZZ)

On their 10th anniversary album the Globe Unity Orchestra (featuring six of their original members plus guests Anthony Braxton and Enrico Rava) explores the usual open interaction as a springboard for fiery solos, culminating in an arrangement of Monk's 'Ruby My Dear', highlighted by Braxton's alto playing. This album is part of Be! Jazz's reissue series of long-lost classics from the legendary vaults of FMP Records, presented in restored original packaging and newly remastered for ptimal sound. Personnel: trumpets: Enrico Rava, Manfred Schoof, Kenny Wheeler, reeds: Anthony Braxton, Peter Brötzmann, Rüdiger Carl, Gerd Dudek, Evan Parker, Michel Pilz, trombones: Günter Christmann, Albert Mangelsdorff, Paul Rutherford, piano: Alex Schlippenbach, basses/tuba: Peter Kowald, Buschi Niebergall, percussion: Paul Lovens. ICP TENTET - IN BERLIN (LP/BE! JAZZ)

Extremely serious and inventive, at the same time good-time music with rough edges, played by inspired musicians under the direction of Misha Mengelberg, recorded in a live set complete with weird interludes and tight ensemble sections - from mournful swing and traditional shuffle to raging improvisation. A timeless audio document that stands up to repeated listenings. This album is part of Be Jazz's reissue series of long-lost classics from the legendary vaults of FMP Records, presented in restored original packaging and newly remastered for optimal sound. Personnel: Misha Mengelberg: piano, Peter Brötzmann: saxophone, P. Bennink: saxophone, bagpipe, Van Bergeyck: saxophone, Tchicai: saxophone, Koppelaar: trombone, Honsinger: cello, Van Regteren Altena: bass, Han Bennink: drums, Waisvisz: crackle box. His wife Lucia Graves took care of the lovely vocals. The LP (pressed in an edition of 500 copies) comes with an insert featuring photos and liner notes.

TABACO - TABACO (LP/WAH WAH)

Originally released in 1979 and blending funk, Latin, folk-rock and more, 'Tabaco' is often regarded as the Spanish answer to the Latin/slasa rhythm releases that came from New York's renowned Fania label. Now this excellent LP, masterminded by Ramon Farran, gets reissued on vinyl (500 copies), complete with reproduced gatefold artwork and an insert featuring photos and liner notes. BARRY, JOHN - ZULU O.S.T. (LP/TRADING PLACES)

One of the most important British film composers of all time, John Barry's body of work is simply astounding. In a career that spanned more than half a century, Barry composed some of the most popular soundtracks for British film and television, including eleven James Bond themes, winning numerous awards and accolades in the process. The son of a projectionist from York in the north of England, Barry was raised in a cinematic environment from a very young age and after a stint as an army trumpeter in Cyprus, he began to work back home in Britain for Jack Parnell and Ted Heath's Orchestra and after the subsequent formation of The John Barry Seven in 1957, he began to work in film and television. The highly evocative 'Zulu' soundtrack of 1964 is the work that brought him to the attention of a wider audience, shortly before the first James Bond theme that would turn him into a household name; here the music shifts between an overriding tension and the kind of military fanfares reserved for pitched skirmishes on battlefields, the orchestrates peaks and troughs sounding every bit as stirring as anything recorded in Hollywood.
