VARIOUS - 50 YEARS LOGOS 50 YEARS OF EXPERIMENT (+BOOK) (LP/SUB ROSA)

A collection of anecdotes, photographs, articles and sound clips that do not intend to be complete - they form a retrospective of the evolution of Logos since 1968. The Logos Foundation is a unique professional organisation for the promotion of new music and audio-related arts by means of new music production, concerts, performances, composition, technological research and other activities related to contemporary music. This organisation has been founded in 1968 by Godfried-Willem Raes. The LP/book '50 years Of Logos' was published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Stichting Logos. The book contains the history of Logos as well as contributions by authors (Jean Paul Van Bendegem, Dirk Moelants, Douglass Quin, Jacques Rémus, Warren Burt and Moniek Darge) who reflect on their experiences with Logos. The LP contains recordings of various artists who are or have been active within Logos (Attr-X, Kris De Baerdemacker, Moniek Darge, Kristof Lauwers, Logos Duo, Logos Ensemble, Logos Women, Laura Maes, Godfried-Willem Raes & Xavier Verhelst). CHRISTIANSEN, HENNING - L'ESSERE UMANO ERRABANDO LA VOCA ERRABANDO (LP/HENNING CHRISTIANSEN)

The third release on The Henning Christiansen archive label features a previousely unreleased work from 1991. 'The Wandering Human Being - The Wandering Voice', as the title suggest is a piece for voice and featurues Carlo Quartucci, Carla Tatò , Ursula Reuter Christiansen and Henning Christiansen.

CHRISTIANSEN, HENNING - OP. 41 BADET/KOM FREM FOR SATAN... (LP/HENNING CHRISTIANSEN)

...MIN DODE HEST/OP. 72 BONDEFOREREN KNUD LAVARD'- The second release on The Henning Christiansen archive label is a compilation of four works from 1967-1972 including a poem set in a bath, an unknown musical work, the musical backdrop to a horse sacrifice and a soundtrack to a school play. What binds these works together alongside the period when written is their basis in 'song' and some traditional 'musical' elements. What separates it them from said tradition is that they were composed by Henning Christiansen.

EXOTIC SIN - CUSTOMER'S COPY (LP/BLANK FORMS EDITIONS)

Featuring duo of Naima Karlsson and Kenichi Iwasa, Exotic Sin releases its debut-LP of contorted cosmic jazz and eccentric minimal electronics.

HARWOOD, MARK - A PERFECT PUNCTUAL PARADISE UNDER MY OWN NAME (LP/PENULTIMATE PRESS)

'A Perfect Punctual Paradise Under My Own Name' is a two part audio drama that charts the life of a middle-aged Australian man in the throes of an existential crisis, brought about through a series of unforeseen circumstances that collectively threaten to undermine the fundamentals of his existence. It's a work that explores the sound of a mind collapsing under pressure, where lucidity is traded for mania, and eloquence reduced to a scattershot of primal rambling and abstract self-reflection.

KOMARE - SENSE OF HEARING (LP/PENULTIMATE PRESS)

Released on vinyl, 'The Sense of Hearing' is the debut-album by an experimental duo from the Londion region. Komare features Dominic Goodman and Peter Blundell, who also make up two thirds of Mosquitoes.

LANERI, ROBERTO - ANADYOMENE (LP/BLACK SWEAT)

The eclectic sensitivity of the composer Roberto Laneri (Prima Materia) looks unparalleled in the Italian avant-garde context. 'Anadyomene', published for the first time in 1987, shows the myth of Venus in a dystopian and dreamlike world. Laneri conceives a sound poem that opens up to the archetypal dimension of the water creation, through the symbol of bivalve conch, the myth of the feminine power is narrated thanks to the verses of the renaissance poet Angelo Poliziano. Creating a daring connection between western and eastern music, travelling on the Mediterranean sea, the contemporary technologies and techniques revive and re-read ancient musical practices: contrapuntal structures and minimal electronic procedures venture into exotic analogies, strange Renaissance allusions, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean repertoires. Among otherworldly fairy voices, symphonic wandering pathos, aquatic disturbances, Indian Hindustani echoes or psychedelic radiances. A special relationship between space and time, architecture and music, the manipulation of sounds conceived as the art of memory in its various meanings of preservation, transformation and distortion.

VARIOUS - SAVE THE NATURE - USE FLUXUS (2LP) (LP/HENNING CHRISTIANSEN)

'THE BOX GALLERY PARKING LOT, LOS ANGELES' - In November 17, 2019 a six hour performance was undertaken in the car park of The Box gallery in Los Angeles as a part of the Henning Christiansen/Ursula Reuter Christiansen exhibition 'They Won't Survive Without The Bird Songs'. Thorbjorn Reuter Christiansen, son of Ursula and Henning, developed a timeline for the performance which was essentially designed to encompass a contemporary community of like minded artists that spans generations and continents harnessing and continuing the work instigated by Henning during his lifetime. The resulting performance included archival recordings taken from the H.C. Archive, which houses a vast collection of compositions, scores and correspondence of the late Christiansen. This limited edition 2LP collects edited highlights from the day capturing the unique and somewhat unsettling atmosphere provoked by a diverse range of performances. Comes as an ultra deluxe set: 2LPs held together with a printed rubber band, 4 large full colour double sided art cards documenting the performances, a substantial booklet/catalogue about the exhibition and a large poster featuring a drawing by Paul McCarthy made during the performance. This is a co-presentation by The Henning Christiansen Archive and The Box gallery and is limited to 500 copies worldwide. SIDE 1: Thorbjorn Reuter Christiansen - The New Sound of the Living Dead SIDE 2: Bjorn Norgaard & Mai Dengsoe Hansen - The Origin of the Future SIDE 3: Mara McCarthy, Paul McCarthy & Chiara Giovando - Knock Harder SIDE 4: Mark Harwood - Chile Metal Freedom

Seminal electro-act Absolute Body Control was one of the first projects of Dirk Ivens (Dive, Sonar, Ex-Klinik) and Eric Van Wonterghem (Insekt, Monolith, Ex-Klinik).

MEIN GLAS FABRIK - EXOTIC PERCUSSION/DEATH TV (2LP) (LP/VINYL ON DEMAND)

In the heart of Sheffield's electronic/industrial music scene of 1979, Peter Bargh and Mark Holmes created the experimental project Mein Glas Fabrik. This VOD release is a combination of their two cassette albums, recorded on simple equipment using tape loops, home made synths, samples, random radio frequencies and a legendary Shergold guitar. 'Death TV' was favourably reviewed in local fanzine 'Tigers On The Moor', 'Exotic Percussion' followed soon after. While influenced by a wide spectrum of musical genres, Mein Glas Fabrik created a fusion of sounds, not adhering to any specific genre... expect the unexpected!

RED BRUT - CLOAKED TRAVELS (LP/IKUISUUS)

Following her debut LP (KRAAK, 2018) and a string of tapes and 7-inches, Red Brut drops her second album, 'Cloaked Travels'. It is a joint release by the Finnish labels Ikuisuus and Lal Lal Lal. In many aspects, 'Cloaked Travels' is an amazing realisation of what Red Brut does best: molding the absurd, the amateurish, and the crude into beautiful and elegant sound pieces. These eight "songs", organised in two suites, dwell between abstract avant-garde and pop sensibility. Working with cassette tapes, Red Brut enhances the ambiguous qualities of her sounds with the warm distortion and background hiss typical of the medium. The music leaves the listener to him- or herself, happily lost in small universes that contain many layers of beauty, discomfort, and intimacy. Limited to 250 copies.

REGEN GRAVES - HERBSTLICHT (CD/BLOODROCK)

Rife with tension, eerie electronica depicts a dark space where an uncertain future meets an equally unsettling past. That ominous thread is woven throughout the six songs. Form and texture shifts along the way. But that sense of unease never really disperses. There are infrequent hints of narrative, found sounds, lingering in the background. Bringing greater texture rather than meaning, the imagination is left to its own devices, grappling with dread, and dreaming thoughts better left buried. The album cover presents a stark city street. Old cars. Trees are bereft of leaves. The German titles allude to autumnal and wintery themes. Death and decay. Where will the journey take you?

VARIOUS - THE FORME TO THE FYNISMENT FOLDES FUL SELDEN (2CD) (CD/COLD SPRING)

'DARK BRITANNICA IV'- Cold Spring bring their dark folk series full circle on Lammas (1st August), 13 years after the release of 'John Barleycorn Reborn: Dark Britannica'. A constant theme throughout these releases has been the cyclical nature of time and the seasons, and the relationship of mankind to the natural environment, with recurrent references to John Barleycorn, personification of the harvest. 32 tracks from the cream of current dark British folk music. Of special note, Peter Ulrich (Dead Can Dance) created an exclusive track especially for this collection: 'Lammas Dance'. CD1: 01. WINTERFYLLETH - 'Æcerbot III' 02. KRANITZ, JERRY - CASSETTE CULTURE (+2CD) (Bk/VINYL ON DEMAND)

'HOMEMADE MUSIC AND CREATIVE SPIRIT IN THE PRE-INTERNET AGE' - Intensive 320 page book written by Jerry Kranitz including a 2CD loaded with almost 160 minutes of cassette culture/DIY artists. The book takes a social history/analytical approach to the growth of the global cassette culture/homemade music network that sprouted and flourished from the post-punk era through the early 1990s. The author explores how the participants communicated, traded, collaborated, and set up cottage industry labels to distribute their work. A long overdue study of this pivotal yet less than comprehensively documented chapter in the post-punk and 20th century independent arts movement stories. METAL/STONER/HARDROCK

GNETERSWART - GNETERSWART (10") (10"/VAN RECORDS)

EP by this German black metal band, limited to 309 handnumbered copies on black vinyl.

BEZWERING - AAN DE WORMEN OVERGELEVERD (LP/VAN RECORDS)

Bezwering from Gelderland, the Netherlands, is an entity risen from the tomb containing the remains of Wederganger. Continuing in the vein of its illustrious predecessor, Bezwering forges Undeath Metal marked by rabid aggression and utter despair since 2018. Following the 2019 demo heralding the first album with two of its songs, the 2020 full-length 'Aan De Wormen Overgeleverd' catapults nine undead cadavers into the world of the living.

DEUS MORTEM - KOSMOCIDE (LP/TERRATUR POSSESSIONS)

On 'Kosmocide', Deus Mortem stretches their musical influences even further than before, drawing inspirations from classic black metal acts, whilst still being able to maintain the 'Deus Mortem-sound' we've come to know over the years. It's epic, it's aggressive, lightning fast as well as dynamic and structured, the album displays worldclass musicianship, crowned with masterful production by M./Mgla and stunning artworks by Artem Grigoryev and Ihasan Art. 'Kosmocide' is an esoteric journey, through tragedies, death and destruction of universal laws - straight to the womb of the raging Chaos.

TAV - I (2LP) (LP/VAN RECORDS)

Tav was founded in Munich/Germany in 2017 and plays atmospheric rock music. Venturing beyond traditional musical borders, the band brings together different styles and merges them in minimalistic patterns, blurring the conventional structure of songs. On their first full-length Tav creates surreal and sombre atmospheres, putting the sole focus on sentiment rather than genre or categorisation. Facing the paradox of fragile beauty within a threatening and hollow mode of existence, there is neither black or white, nor any middle ground or an ultimate whole. Only a constant state of metamorphosis. Limited to 327 handnumbered copies.

KOSMOKRATOR/HADOPELAGYAL - THE ORPHIC CHASM (CD/VAN RECORDS)

Split album by these Belgian and German death/black metal bands. Limited to 500 copies.

BLACK ROAD - WITCH OF THE FUTURE (CD/BLOODROCK)

Debut full-length by Black Road, a 4-piece sultry stoner/doom outfit from Chicago that creates a heavy and harmonious combination of rhythm and riffs

MAGGOT HEART - MERCY MACHINE (LP/RAPID EYE)

Linnéa Olsson's Maggot Heart is back with their sophomore album, released on Linnéa's label Rapid Eye Records. The Swedish guitarist/singer/songwriter, based in Berlin since 2012, has made her band a much talked about force in the underground over the last few years with their extensive touring (alongside Earthless and Voivod among others), cross-over hard rock sound, and punk ethos. 'Mercy Machine' is a ferocious rock album about sex, death and the pursuit of freedom.

VOID KING - BARREN DOMINION (LP/OFF THE RECORD)

Second album by US stoner doom and roll practitioners Void King. With 'Barren Dominion' the band has harnessed raw emotion and embraced a darker, heavier sound. Recorded and mixed by Niko Albanese. Mastered by Dennis Pleckham (Bongripper) at Comatose Studios. Comes on transparent blue and black marbled vinyl.

BLUES/COUNTRY/OLDIES

JACK'S BASKET ROOM - PIECES OF ME (LP/SELF RELEASE)

Jack's Basket Room has been developing its take on modern American roots music since 2015. The band has been touring intensely and shared the stage with 22-Pistepirkko. The band's debut album 'Welcome To' and the EP 'Vanilla Club' released in 2018 are the prelude to this album 'Pieces Of Me'. This album is produced by Espe Haverinen from 22-Pistepirkko and it explores and combines boldy different music styles from country-folk and garage to modern pop and rock. It features, beside Haverinen as guest, other Finnish artists like PK Keranen, Antero Priha, and Yari. This album is dedicated to their former band member Hanna, who passed away before the release of the album. A part of the album's proceeds will be donated to a cancer charity organization.

HOTSHOT DRIFTERS - MILLIONAIRE (10") (10"/SLEAZY)

A ten-track 10" by the Hotshot Drifters, a western swing, hillbilly boogie and hot country jazz band from San Diego, California.

TUCKER, ANITA - TRUE AND REAL (LP/SLEAZY)

Anita Tucker was a blues and R&B singer, born in Arkansas. Her first release was in 1955 on the Philadelphia based Guyden label, an offshoot of Essex records and part of the recording family that would expand in later years to include some of the best originators of the Philly sound. Later she released a couple of singles for Capitol. After she met Gerard Akueson, a Togolese musician, record producer and founder of the Akue record label, Tucker released a couple of singles on that label in the 60s. This 18-track compilation contains blues, rhythm'n'blues and big band jazz from her active career.

JAZZ/AVANTGARDE

CHERRY, DON - OM SHANTI OM (LP/BLACK SWEAT)

An amazing document of the life experiment that was the Organic Music Society. This super quality audio, recorded by RAI (the Italian public broadcasting company) in 1976 for television, documents a quartet concert focused on vocals compositions and improvisations. Here, Don Cherry and his family-community's musical belief emerges in its simplicity, with the desire to merge the knowledge and stimuli gained during numerous travels across the World in a single sound experience. Don's pocket-trumpet is melted with the beats of the great Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos, the Italian guitar of Gian Piero Pramaggiore, and the tanpura drone of Moki. A pure hippie aesthetic, like in an intimate ceremony, filters a magical encounter between Eastern and Western civiliziations, offering different suggestions of sound mysticism: natural acoustics in which individual instruments and voices are part of a wider pan-tribal consciousness. A desert Western landscape marries Asian and Latin atmospheres. Indigenous contributions with berimbau explorations find fossil sounds of rattles and clap-hands invocations. Influences of Indian mantra singing are combined with eternal African voices or with folkish-Latin guitar rhythms , while flute and drums evoke distant dances. In the Organic Music everything becomes an act of devotion and love, an ecstatic dwell in the dimension of a sacred free-rejoice.

YOUNGE, ADRIAN -& ALI SHAHEED MUHAMMAD- - JAZZ IS DEAD (LP/JAZZ IS DEAD)

Under 'Jazz Is Dead', younger artists are elaborating upon conversations started decades ago; jazz icons are utilizing vintage equipment to create new masters with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad; the same equipment that recorded their coveted catalogs. This compilation features legendary artists Roy Ayers, Gary Bartz, Marcos Valle, Azymuth, Doug Carn, Joao Donato and Brian Jackson, who will each have their own individual release, working alongside Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. TRACKS: 1. Hey Lover feat. Roy Ayers 2. Distant Mode feat. Gary Bartz 3. Nancy Wilson feat. Brian Jackson 4. Conexao feat. Joao Donato 5. Down Deep feat. Doug Carn 6. Apocalíptico feat. Azymuth 7. Nao Saia Da Praça feat. Marcos Valle 8. Jazz Is Dead feat. The Midnight Hour

YOUNGE, ADRIAN -& ALI SHAHEED MUHAMMAD- - ROY AYERS (LP/JAZZ IS DEAD)

In February 2018, Roy Ayers performed four sold out shows in Los Angeles as part of the 'Jazz Is Dead' Black History Month series. It wasn't until 2020 that fans of Ayers discovered that in addition to those shows, the legendary vibraphone player had also recorded an entire album of new material with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Over the course of its eight original compositions, written collaboratively by Younge, Shaheed Muhammad and Ayers and recorded at Younge's Linear Labs in Los Angeles, the resulting album sounds both like an unearthed an unreleased album from Ayers' classic period in the 1970s (which produced the oft-sampled 'Red, Black & Green,' 'We Live In Brooklyn, Baby,' 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine,' and 'Running Away', as well as something startling, new and unexpected. Joining Ayers, Younge and Shaheed Muhammad on this musical journey are drummer Greg Paul, vocalists Loren Oden, Joy Gilliam, Saudia Yasmein, Elgin Clark and Anitra Castleberry, as well as Phil Ranelin and Wendell Harrison of the legendary spiritual jazz label Tribe Records. The 8 tracks on this album testify to the love not only of a legendary musician's legacy, but to the vitality and necessity of this music and these sounds in the present era, a thread that will likely run throughout all of the upcoming releases from Jazz Is Dead Records. TRACKS: 1. Synchronize Vibration 2. Hey Lover 3. Soulful And Unique 4. Shadows Of The East 5. Sunflowers 6. Gravity 7. Solace 8. African Sounds

SOUL/FUNK/LATIN/R&B/GOSPEL

GILBERTO, ASTRUD - THAT GIRL FROM IPANEMA (LP/TRADING PLACES)

The daughter of a Brazilian mother and German father, Astrud Gilberto achieved international prominence with 'The Girl From Ipanema,' an inauspicious debut recorded for the landmark album her husband, Joao Gilberto, created with Stan Getz in 1963. Moving to the USA, where she was subsequently based, she continued her solo career and also toured with Getz, with whom she later began a relationship. Over-the-top classic 'That Girl From Ipanema' allowed her to revisit the hit in the sweeping high-fidelity full-spectrum setting of a disco big-band, the album overseen by MFSB and Salsoul mainstay, Vince Montana. Along with individual takes of Cole Porter's 'Love For Sale' and Harry Nilsson's 'The Puppy Song,' original 'Far Away' benefits from the understated trumpet of Chet Baker, but the album ultimately revels in all things disco, the Brazilian element coming courtesy of percussionist Dom Um Romao on select tracks. Crank up the volume and tune in to the brass, piano and percussion that percolates under Astrud's characteristically soft and sultry vocals to fully experience this underrated gem.

ULTRAFUNK - MEAT HEAT (LP/TRADING PLACES)

Anonymous British funk band Ultrafunk was spearheaded by Blues & Soul magazine proprietor John Abbey, who ran a record shop and label called Contempo during the 1970s; he conceived of the group as the UK counterpart to US studio bands like MFSB. Arranger Gerry Shury, who had worked with Barry White and Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, drafted guitarist Chris Rae and bassist Frank McDonald (who often composed library music together) and future Rubettes drummer John Richardson. A lack of band photos, suggestive song titles and a predilection for American cover tunes led many to believe the band was US-based. Their second LP 'Meat Heat' shows the group at the peak of their powers, with five choice hard funk instrumentals, including a tasteful synth-led adaptation of Stevie Wonders' 'I Wish' (beautifully arranged by session guitarist Gordon Hunte, who had worked with Osibisa and Rebob Kwaku Baa), while their take on Norman Whitefield's 'Sunrise,' from the 'Carwash' soundtrack, is exceptionally rendered. Sadly, Shury's death in a car crash would soon squash the group, leaving 'Meat Heat' the best reminder of their musical talents.

AFRO-BEAT/FUNK & PSYCH/DESERT BLUES/ETHIOPIQUES

LIMA, PEDRO - MAGUIDALA (LP/BONGO JOE)

Pedro Lima was certainly the most iconic singer from Sao Tomé island. People named him "A voz do povo de Sao Tomé", the people's voice of the island, as he always made very clear his political views on internal affairs, and backed since day one the revolutionary party that took power after the independence obtained from Portugal on July 12th 1975. A powerful and free soul, expressing through his beautifully soft and deep voice range, the concerns of the poor, in this often troubled country. His music is wonderfully rich and delicate, though quite minimalistic in arrangements, revealing the subtle melodies of the islands' harmonic and backing vocals traditions, laid on either incredibly energetic Puxa rhythms, or the sweetness of sensual Rumbas. On 'Maguidala' which was recorded in 1985, during his really best period, you will hear a team of killer musicians that had been playing together for already 20 years by that time. The magnificent ear of his faithful solo guitarist Leopoldino Silva provides heavenly improvisations, embellishing backing vocals and solid Soukouss inspired phrases of second guitarist Pety-Zorro, while the rest of the team delivers intricate rhythms and delightful choirs. Beautifully balanced between two crazy dancing Puxas, and two delicate Rumbas to sooth your soul, all of nearly 10 minutes each; the 'Maguidala' LP is a true masterpiece, so hard to find and reaching crazy figures nowadays for a decent copy.

OSIBISA - BLACK MAGIC NIGHT (2LP) (LP/TRADING PLACES)

Esteemed Afro-rock fusion band and world music pioneers Osibisa have enjoyed a long reign, with unwavering popularity, despite numerous line-up changes. Saxophonist Teddy Osei, drummer Sol Amarfio and flautists Mamon Shareef and Farhan Freere had all been in the highlife band The Star Gazers in Ghana, and were joined by Osei's trumpeter brother, Mac Tontoh, in spin-off group, The Comets; after moving the London in the early 1960s, Osei formed short-lived fusion band, Cat's Paw, and after convincing Tontoh and Amarfio to join him in London, Osibisa was formed with the Antiguan guitarist and vocalist, Wednell Richardson, Grenadian bassist Spartacus R, Nigerian percussionist Loughty Lasisi Amao, and Trinidadian keyboardist, Robert Bailey; a contract with Mercury brought greater exposure. Always strong in live performance, this excellent double-LP set was captured at London's Royal Festival Hall in 1977, with the group delivering spot-on renditions of their best-known works, from the extended opening invocation of 'The Dawn' to the irresistible grooves of 'Welcome Home' and 'Sunshine Day.'

VARIOUS: WORLD, CLASSICAL, SPOKEN WORDS ETC

YIN YIN - HAW PHIN/CHONG KY (7"/BONGO JOE)

Yin Yin: 'Haw Phin' - We wrote this song during the quarantine. Kees was recording his part from his place and Yves recorded his part at his place. Haw pin is Maastricht dialect for "stay strong" which you can see on a lot of windows at the moment in Maastricht and we mixed it up because we used the "pain", a lute from Thailand. 'Chông Ky' - This song was recorded like 3 years ago at Yves' place, we wrote and recorded it in one night. I think it's one of the most different songs we ever did. We are playing it live in a different version.

BALOUCH, AZIZ - SUFI HISPANO-PAKISTANI (7"/DEATH IS NOT THE END)

Death Is Not The End digs deep to pull out some raw Sufi-flamenco recordings from 1962, by the late Aziz Balouch. These 4 tracks are taken from his only existing recording, an EP released in Spain in 1962. On each track Balouch draws on his polyglottism to seamlessly merge Sufi poetry in Persian, Sindhi, Hindi and Arabic with various forms of Andalusian songs in Spanish.
