Quicksand (uk)

Home Is Where I Belong

This is the first official re-release on vinyl under licensed courtesy of BMG Rights Management,UK, remastered from an original master copy out of the vaults of BMG. Originally released in 1973 on Transatlantic progressive rock label Dawn, this underrated Welsh group convinces with great songwriting and musicianship! There are similarities with Fantasy, early Jonesy, Spring or Cressida, also a distinct Quicksilver Messenger Service 1960's "West Coast" sound influence. You hear plenty of guitars, electric and acoustic, and organ and mellotron to satisfy the 1970's progressive rock heads. Also the partly polyphonic vocals are really magnificent. There are two tracks that clear the 8 minute mark that are really overtly progressive pieces and are truly brilliant. Also they have a psychedelic feel, the atmosphere, the arrangements remind of the very early '70's. The album is well constructed alternating from pure heavy prog pieces like 'Sunlight Brings Shadows', 'Seasons - Alpha Omega', 'Overcome The Pattern'/'Flying', or the title track 'Home Is Where I Belong', with similarity to Uriah Heep's 'Demons And Wizards' era) to mellower ones like 'Empty Street Empty Heart', with a beginning in an absolutely Beatles atmosphere. The original recordings were carefully and properly remastered. The album comes in a gatefold sleeve with bandstory summed up in a 2-sided cover sized insert sheet. Don't miss this definitely hidden classic from the almost infinite and fertile British 70's scene.
