Formed in Houston, Texas in 1965, the International Artists label is best known for the 13th Floor Elevators' hit singles and seminal albums but the label also released a series of groundbreaking records from acts such as The Red Krayola, Lost & Found and The Golden Dawn. Along with these psychedelic classics, the label also released two blues albums recorded by Lightnin' Hopkins and Dave Allen. While Allen might not be as well known as Hopkins, his story is just as traumatic as many of the blues greats and he had the guitar skills to match them too. He recorded Color Blind for IA in 1968 and the album was one of the final albums released by the label in 1969. Its eleven tracks capture the pain of the alcohol and drug addictions that blighted his life, providing a window into the life of a great musician at a critical moment in time, just before he slipped over the edge into oblivion, leaving this one special letter behind explaining how it happened and why. This is the first time the album has ever been available on CD and it has been carefully re-mastered from the original tapes and comes with four bonus tracks. The lavish package is a 5000 copy limited edition rigid digibook and is part of the series of deluxe reissues of the original IA albums. The 16 page booklet, which is printed on thick card, also features unpublished pictures and new sleeve notes from Allen's biographer Gary Redeker detailing the ultimately tragic story of this talented musician and the incredible music he created.
