A gentle album full of consoling tunes, more or less in the vein of Cat Stevens' 'Morning Has Broken', but with a bit more soul (although this association might be caused by the insistent use of piano on this record). This ultra-rare pearl of funky gospel music was the first production of famous Canadian producer Paul Zaza.

Also available: DON'T CRY LITTLE TREE (CD).

Here's a cool reissue of a steaming 1980 funk/soul/disco delivery from Nigerian artist Ignatius 'Igna' Igwebuike (I.G.). A big funky slice of Nigerian cowboy disco magic, 'Bomp' was I.G.'s only album. It's a startling one-off disco boogie classic that was clear in its ... read more »

PINO, GERALDO - BOOGIE FEVER

A reissue on vinyl of this excellent LP by Sierra Leone's Geraldo Pino. Originally issued in Nigeria in 1978, the album reveals traces of a.o. reggae and James Brown-like funk, albeit with a dark, somewhat threatening vibe.
