One of the rarest records in the world by Os Mutantes before they were Os Mutantes. Heavyweight Brazilian psychedelic rock and folk. O'Seis were the core members of the mighty and legendary Os Mutantes, namely Rita Lee and brothers Arnaldo and Sérgio Baptista, accompanied here by Raphael Vilardi, Maria 'Mogguy' Malheiros and Luiz Pastura. The record features anthemic, heavyweight, psychedelic rock on 'Suicida' b/w deeper, tripped-out MPB-folk on 'Apocalipse'. Both tracks were written by Rita Lee, assisted by Tobe and Vilardi respectively. The term "holy grail" is a little overused these days perhaps, but this definitely is one. Originally pressed and released by the band themselves in 1966, apparently only a handful of copies are known to exist (sources/numbers vary). The record has changed hands for up to a staggering $5000! Ouch.

ADOLFO, ANTONIO -E A BRAZUCA-/MARIA CASTRO NEVES & SAMBA S.A. - DOIS MINUTOS DE UMA NOVO DIA/CANDOMBLE

Antonio Adolfo E A Brazuca's 'Dois Minutos De Um Novo Dia' is a pacey samba-funk-MPB track that originally appeared on a 7-inch from 1969, released by Odeon Brazil. Expect soaring vocals, strings and horns over alternating full and half-time funk drum breaks. Very big ... read more »

CRAVO & CANELA - PRECO DA CADA UM

One of the rarer and more mysterious Brazilian albums and one of the best examples of MPB in the mid-to-late '70s. More samba than bossa, this record has sophisticated phrasing that you might expect in some of the EMI/Odeon work from earlier in the decade. Cravo & ... read more »

SOLAT - (UK) CHANGE THE WORLD/TRY, TRY

Rare and highly sought after in its original format, Os Brazoes' self-titled album was originally released on RGE Discos in 1969. It is a psychedelic masterpiece that fuses samba, r'n'b and rock'n'roll influences using fuzz guitars, synths, percussion, lush vocals and ... read more »

NAS - THE WORLD IS YOURS

'The World is Yours' is a perfect nugget of a single, weaving in the brashness of Scarface, the repetition of a snatch of T La Rock's early Def Jam gem 'It's Yours' and piano courtesy of Ahmad Jamal's 'I Love Music' from his own timeless 'The Awakening' album (1970). ... read more »

SYLVERS, FOSTER/SYLVERS - MISDEMEANOR/WHEN I'M NEAR YOU

'Misdemeanour' is a truly classic break and has been utilised by Madlib, Big Daddy Kane, Rodney P, The D.O.C, Pete Rock and many more. Danny Krivit edited the track in 2007, adding an acappella version on the front - still a big record with DJ's. 'When I'm Near You' is a ... read more »
