Meditations (endless Happiness)
'Meditations' is a 1966 album by John Coltrane which features Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders as soloists, both playing tenor saxophones. This was the last Coltrane recording to feature his classic quartet lineup of himself, bassist Jimmy Garrison, drummer Elvin Jones and pianist McCoy Tyner (augmented here as a sextet with Sanders and second drummer Rashied Ali). The album is a spiritual and intense suite of five movements, featuring Coltrane's characteristic passionate saxophone playing and deep explorations of free jazz and modal improvisation. The themes reflect his ongoing spiritual quest, making Meditations both a powerful musical statement and a deeply emotional experience.
